Gameplay 🏰
This is a tableau builder, you build a 3×3 grid over nine turns by drafting from two face up rows of peasant and noble decks (the market) guided by a messenger token. On your turn you can spend coins or take a "face down" card instead for 6 coins + 2 keys. Keys are a useful resource that can move the messenger token or refresh the market and are worth 1 point each at end of game. Card plays can have immediate effects (coins, keys, discounts) and endgame scoring points based on suit/colour/location.
What's Great? 👍
This game is so quick and simple to teach, it's great for gaming newbies.
It's pretty addictive, the small grid, lots of card effects, and quick turns make it very replayable.
I really like the whimsical and quirky artwork it adds to the game.
Final thoughts 💭
I love Castle Combo, and so does Zara, it's a personal favourite of ours because it's so easy to pick up, quick to play, but you still get that satisfying tableau building experience.
